Human and robot discrimination

One of the biggest problems that many people face on a daily basis is discrimination, whether it is in terms of race, gender etc. I think that discrimination is part of being human, because people love to compare things and find the differences between them, and they shape these differences to be reasons for something else, such as a black person being a criminal, or a woman being weak. If robots are introduced to our daily lives and become equals to humans, I think that discrimination between humans will seize to exist because the difference between a human and a robot will be more obvious than for example the difference between humans of different color. Humans will be united together and will consider themselves to be equal, but they will consider robots to be their enemies because the difference between them and humans will be the most obvious. I think that humans thrive on the “us and them” mentality, and I think the reason why nowadays it is being implemented between humans is because there is no other species we know of that is equally powerful as we are for us to consider our enemy, but when robots are introduced to our daily lives, they will be considered as the new enemy to most humans.

Should the use of AI be banned in competitive sports

One of the most important jobs for a team in any sport is to analyze the other team in order to be prepared when playing against them. It’s a job that takes a lot of work, and is not usually accurate due to it being hard to read another team. However, if a program was made that analyzes all the games of the opposing team and provides a clear and accurate analysis about their style of play, the team using the program will have a huge advantage. I personally think that it is unfair to use such a program, because not all teams will be able to afford it (whoever invents it will probably make it extremely expensive) and the teams that use it will be too powerful in comparison with other teams. I think it is the same as players using anabolic steroids, because they are both unfair advantages that change the way the game is played.

Genji, the cyborg hero

Genji, a hero in the game Overwatch has a very interesting storyline. In the beginning, he was a ninja in a criminal Japanese organization. At one point he decides that what they are doing is wrong and fights against them, and he almost gets killed. He was saved in the end but sacrificed most of his body and became a cyborg. He wasn’t at peace with himself and did not accept the way he was as he thought he was no longer human. So, he went to a complete robot/AI to seek guidance in becoming a cyborg, because the robot was known to be more peaceful than actual humans, due to him having a reputation of healing the wounded. He taught him how to accept himself and ignore the idea that a cyborg or robot should not be considered as a good creature. Genji learned how to embrace his new exterior and use it to be become a better person. He goes on to fight the criminal organization that he used to work for, proving that a cyborg can have better morals than a human.

Rick and Morty: Raising Gazorpazorp

In season 1 episode 7 of the animated series Rick and Morty, Morty pleads Rick to buy him a sex robot from a store in space. Rick ends up buying it for him and they go back to earth. To no one’s surprise, Morty spends almost all his time having sex with the sex robot, we find out later in the episode that he even gives her a name. After some time, the robot gives birth to a child that is half human and half another species. Rick and Morty find out that these sex robots are used for reproduction on another planet, the females on the other planet are the superior gender and the only use they have for males is reproduction which is why they use the sex robots. They do not see any other use for the males and consider themselves far superior than them, which is probably true. The situation in the episode could actually be a reality one day for humans because our species may reach a point where we will find no need for sex, thus relying on sex robots for reproduction.

Love, Death & Robots

The series call “Love, Death & Robots” is an anthology series that explores alternative possibilities in the future. Episode two, “Three Robots”, takes place in a post-apocalyptic city on earth, where all humans are dead. Three robots are exploring it and they are supposedly on vacation. The most interesting thing about the episode was the robots’ views on humans, and how stupid they thought they were. They saw many things that humans did as anticlimactic and just plain dumb. For example, they thought that human digestion is illogical and that there is no need for it, because they think the only source of power should be a fusion battery. They saw that human digestion took too much work and unnecessary. They were even surprised that humans did not have a code, which is very interesting because even though the humans are their creators, the robots thought very less of them and considered themselves superior to them. Later on the episode we find out that the robots’ ancestors, as one of them came from an xbox, the other from a baby monitor, and the third from a metronome. They then say how the humans got extinct by stating that humans thought they were the pinnacle of creation and slowly destroyed their environment till they all died. The scary thing about the episode is that it is believable and that it could actually be the future of the human race, because humans could be the ones that destroy themselves in the end

Humans and robots are identical at their core

Humans usually view robots are something that is less than them, but that is not the case as they are extremely similar to the point that they may be the same. Humans think that what defines them is their “superior” logical reasoning and how they have free will, but that is not the case. Humans and robots are almost identical in terms of thinking, they both have logical reasoning based on their experiences and their biological features. The only difference is that the logic humans use is way more complex than a robot’s, but robots are becoming more and more complex day by day, getting closer to being like humans. The reason why the human mind is so complex is because it had thousands of years of evolution for it to be so advanced, so it is only a matter of time for the robot’s mind to be as complex as a human’s because the humans are doing evolution’s work by making advancements on robots. The robots biological features are for example their intelligence and the exterior appearance that the humans give them, and these affect their experiences. Same goes for humans, all their decisions are based on their genetics (intelligence and appearance) and what they went through (experiences), just like the robots. So this reaches the conclusion that humans and robots are basically the same at their core, only that humans are currently more complex.

Becoming Unmanned

The chapter talks about how machines are becomes more and more involved in war, making it unnecessary for there to be gender diversification in war. However, the writer sees that this is not the case, as she implies that even though the military jobs, or will be required, have no relation to the physique or strength of a person, aggression in military jobs will still be seen as masculine, rather than feminine or gender neutral. I do not agree with her as I see that as long as there is no need for physical strength, the job will be gender neutral, as these jobs will require technical ability more than physical, and it has nothing to do with a person’s gender, so I think that people will not view them as masculine jobs. She also states that more people will be willing to join the military, as only technical ability is needed plus there is a low endangerment of one’s life. She also says that the people who do these technical military jobs from military bases, such as controlling drones, feel extreme stress during their work as if they were the ones on the battlefield. This could discourage some people from these military jobs but I do not think that there will be a gender issue. She then makes a point that I completely disagree with, it is that the technological advancements that will create super soldiers will be mainly applied to males to increase gender diversity so that males become more powerful than females. She states that this advancement will create an opportunity for men to demean women. Why would these advancements be only applied to men? There is absolutely no reason for them to be applied to men, no one has a political, or war related, desire to demean another gender. It will be to demean the country’s enemies, so the technological advancements will be applied to the most fitting for them, regardless of the gender, but to the technical ability and intelligence of the person. She then talks about how the military suit monitors everything about its user, and that it could be used for the wrong reason, which is to spy on women. I only partly agree on this part as it could be used to spy on women if the suit is used by someone outside the military, but I really do not think that during a violent war related situation the military will focus on spying on the woman’s body.

Free will

A quote in Enlightened Automata really struck me which was, “destiny itself is determined by particular genies who guide us without our knowing and without our seeing the strings which hold us; at last that in this lower world we are all like real puppets, ignorant and utterly blind slaves.(p. 16)”  It states that we have no will power and that we are guided by external beings, which made me think about the fact that there’s a high chance that we are not in control of ourselves. We are all born with different genes which shape our personalities along with our different experiences. We do not choose our genes we are just born with them which lead us to make decisions in our lives, which can be right or wrong. So if someone steals for example, he is lead to that decision of stealing by the experiences he went through and the genes he was born with, making him not in control of the actions he did. Should he be judged or forgiven because he was just born this way? In my opinion he should be judged to be put as an example to others who may do the same wrong actions, preventing them from doing the same mistakes, but if an afterlife exists he shouldn’t be judged, as it wasn’t his choice to be born this way.
